Last updated: July 14, 2026

This guide walks you through connecting Sakura to a Slack workspace and using it from DMs, public channels, and private channels. After connecting, you can configure one default DM route and multiple channel routes for the same Slack workspace.

Preparation

  • Access to the target Sanka workspace
  • Permission to manage integrations in Sakura settings
  • Permission to install apps in the Slack workspace
  • Corresponding email addresses for Slack and Sanka users
  • Available Sanka Credit for AI usage
If your Slack workspace requires app approval, ask a Slack admin to approve Sakura before you start.

Connect Slack

  1. Sign in to Sakura and open the target Sanka workspace.
  2. Open SettingsIntegrations.
  3. Click New and select Slack.
  4. In Slack, confirm the Slack workspace and review the requested permissions.
  5. Click Allow.
  6. Return to Sakura and confirm that Slack appears in the integrations list.
Each Slack row shows the connected Slack workspace name. If you connected more than one Slack workspace, confirm the workspace name before clicking Edit.

Manage Slack routes

A Slack route determines which Sanka workspace receives a message sent to Sakura from Slack.
  1. Open SettingsIntegrations.
  2. Find the row with the target Slack workspace name and click Edit.
  3. Under Slack routes, select a route type.
  4. Click Create route.
  5. To create another route, click Add another route on the same screen.
For one Slack workspace, configure one default route for DMs and group DMs, then add as many channel mention routes as needed. Existing routes appear on the same screen and can be disabled when they are no longer needed.

Use DMs

Configure the dedicated Sakura DM

  1. Edit the target Slack integration.
  2. Select DM / group DM default workspace as the route type.
  3. Confirm the displayed Slack workspace name.
  4. Click Create route.
  5. In Slack, open Sakura under Agents & apps and send a message.
If you mention @Sakura from your self-DM or try to add Sakura to an existing DM, Slack displays “Agents can only be added at the start of direct messages.” Open the dedicated Sakura DM under Agents & apps instead. For a group DM, include Sakura when the conversation is created.
Sample prompt
Tell me which Sanka workspace is connected and list 5 recently created
companies. Do not update anything yet.

Use public channels

  1. Open the target Slack channel.
  2. Invite Sakura to the channel with this command:
Text
/invite @Sakura
  1. Refresh SettingsIntegrations in Sakura.
  2. Edit the target Slack workspace and select Channel mention.
  3. Select the channel you invited Sakura to and create the route.
  4. Mention @Sakura when you make a request in the channel.
Sample prompt
@Sakura show the 5 most recent invoices. Do not update anything yet.
See Slack's official shortcuts and commands guide for more about /invite.

Use private channels

A private channel does not appear in Sakura's channel selector until Sakura has been invited to it.
  1. Open the target private channel.
  2. Run /invite @Sakura, or open the channel details and add Sakura under Add apps.
  3. Refresh SettingsIntegrations in Sakura.
  4. Edit the target Slack workspace and select Channel mention.
  5. Select the private channel and create the route.
  6. Mention @Sakura when you make a request in the channel.
You can also add Sakura to a Slack Connect channel shared with another organization. Members of the organization that installed Sakura can invoke the app, and external participants can see its replies. App availability still follows each organization's Slack administration policy. When a request refers to “this deal,” include the company, items, quantity, price, or other details Sakura needs in the message or an attachment.

Review usage

Slack messages that run Sakura use Sanka Credit. Workspace administrators can review Slack-origin usage from WorkspacePlan & Billing. The usage list shows the source, message evidence, token usage, and charge so administrators can audit Slack activity.

Troubleshooting

  • If a channel is missing from the selector, run /invite @Sakura in that channel and refresh Sakura settings.
  • If Sakura does not respond in a channel, confirm that Sakura is a member and that the channel mention route is active.
  • If Sakura does not respond in a DM, confirm that the DM / group DM default workspace route exists and that you opened the dedicated Sakura DM.
  • If Slack OAuth fails, confirm that the Sakura app is approved for the Slack workspace.
  • If a user gets an account-mapping error, confirm that the user's Slack email corresponds to an active Sanka user.
  • If you have multiple Slack integrations, confirm the Slack workspace name shown in the integrations list and edit screen.
